Dear Friends
This is a very difficult letter to pen. One never imagines being in a situation like this until you are in it.
We are writing this on behalf of our sister, daughter, and single mother to two special needs daughters and appealing to the generosity of strangers.
Six months ago, she was diagnosed with a kidney condition and two months ago was admitted to hospital with end stage kidney failure and a complete renal shutdown. Herein lies the problem, we have managed to get her onto a medical aid, but unfortunately, she cannot utilise its benefits for another eleven months as her kidney condition is a pre-existing one. We were left with no choice but to admit her into a government facility. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, so much so, that three weeks ago the family was called in and we were given a very grave and dire prognosis. We were told to “prepare” ourselves for what looked like the inevitable.
However, we never gave up hope and never stopped praying and miraculously, her vitals stabilised. We immediately put her on emergency dialysis and she began to show signs of life! Her road ahead is very long and arduous but B”H she is on it considering where she was just a few short weeks ago. We as a family are now appealing to our community for help.
Until she can benefit from her medical aid, we need to raise R360 000 ($20 000) for her dialysis to cover the next eleven months in private care (R2,300/ $128 per session). Unfortunately, she cannot continue to be dialysed in government renal as they have stated unequivocally that it is simply not available as the waiting period for dialysis is over a year. We have no choice but to dialyse her privately and time is not on her side. She needs to be dialysed three times a week and cannot survive without it.
Our sister is the most kind and gentle person who cannot do enough for others. We pray that middah k’neged middah (measure for measure) she will now bear the fruits of her plantings. She has said she wants to fight, she wants to live, she is choosing life! As we approach the Days of Awe where we too are told to “Choose Life”, we are appealing to the generosity of our community to give her a fighting chance to achieve this. Every cent counts, every prayer makes a difference.
G-d bless you all.
